Ep 89 // 10 Lessons Learned in 10 Years As The Classroom Nook

Inside This Week’s Episode: — It’s been 10 years since beginning my journey as The Classroom Nook and I have learned a LOT! Reflection fuels growth and progress, so here are 10 lessons learned in 10 years.

Reflection fuels Growth.

In September of 2011, I started a journey and had NO IDEA where that journey would bring me.

Well, let me tell you, it been a journey. And I have learned so much about myself as an educator and as a person. I believe that we go further when we stop often to reflect upon where we’ve been.

If we want our students to reflect on their progress and their journey, then we must also develop those same habits.

In this episode, I’m sharing 10 of the most valuable lessons that I’ve learned since starting and growing The Classroom Nook. I hope that these lessons are not only true for myself, but that you may also find that they speak to your own growth and progress as an educator.

Here They are, 10 Lessons…

Here’s a Snapshot:

  • Lesson 1: Digital learning is here to stay and 21st century instructional practices are a must in today’s classroom (even when the pandemic goes away!)

  • Lesson 2: Progress over perfection. Just get it out into the world (whatever it is that you’re doing or creating), get feedback and make it better.

  • Lesson 3: Live and die by systems and processes. Systems and processes allow us to be productive, focused, and successful.

  • Lesson 4: Focus on what I can control and let go of what I can’t.

  • Lesson 5: Reflect on your resources and ask: Are they still culturally responsive and appropriate?

  • Lesson 6: Your work is never done. There is always room for improvement and reflection to make our work better and more valuable.

  • Lesson 7: Learn to listen

  • Lesson 8: Work-Life balance is hard - but do-able. It is a work in progress and worth working at.

  • Lesson 9: Teachers are resilient

  • Lesson 10: Do the scary things in life.
