“Fired Up For ___”

Consider including some of the following items in your classroom to enhance your camping theme:

Flannel or Burlap Bulletin Board Backgrounds
This fabric adds that camp-y feel to your walls and softens the over-all look of your classroom.  Look for these materials at your local craft store, Wal-Mart (they sell fabric!) or Jo-Ann Fabrics.

Red and White Checkered Tables Cloth
Create your camping themed classroom with these tips, ideas, and decor printables.Drape these over your guided reading table, teacher desk…etc for a quick camp look and pop of color.  You can find a pack of 4 right here.

Old Maps
Maps make another easy decoration or even a bulletin board background.  Since GPS devices have taken over, you most likely have an unused map or two hangin' around your house that can be re-purposed in your classroom.  If not, you can often find them at grocery stores or convenience store.

Woodland Stuffed Animals
Give your students a fun reading buddy or use stuffed animals as shelf decor.  Either way, a woodland stuffed animal can give your classroom that campground feel.  Find a collection here.

Flashlights

Make reading time a little extra exciting by having "Flashlight Friday" and allow students to shine flashlights onto the books that they are reading, just like their camping!  Use them to spotlight important things on the board while teaching or even as decorations throughout your "campsite."  Find a collection of 6 colorful flashlights here.

Small Tent to Place in Reading Corner
Set up a small tent in your reading corner and watch students BEG to read inside it!  Complete the tent with some cozy pillows and you're all set!  You can find a play tent here.
